Bethany Garr
Bethany completed her undergraduate studies in French and Writing from Mount Union College and received her master's degree in Counseling from Youngstown State University. She is currently a doctoral candidate in Counselor Education and Supervision at the University of North Carolina—Greensboro.
Bethany is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of South Carolina, and has been practicing since 2006. Before joining the Wellness Center in 2014, Bethany worked in a variety of settings including community mental health agencies, substance abuse rehabilitation facilities, and inpatient psychiatric hospitals. She enjoys working with a wide variety of people, but her practice has focused mostly on intimate partner and family violence, sexual abuse, self-injury, depression, and multicultural concerns. Bethany identifies as an integrative therapist, and incorporates elements of schema therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and somatic approaches into her work with students.
When Bethany is not working with students, she enjoys going to concerts, traveling to new places, knitting, yoga, and planting flowers in her garden. She also loves playing with her two cats, Frankie and Pi, and her basset hound, Budd.
